Tour itinerary

Day
1
Hobart

Arrive at Princess Wharf for boarding at 4:00pm, with time to settle into your stateroom before our 5:00pm departure. Take the time to become acquainted with all the facilities onboard before meeting your fellow travellers, the Captain and crew for the Captain’s Welcome Drinks.

Day
2
Adventure Bay and Bruny Island

Experience the rugged beauty of Fluted Cape as you walk along the sheer coastal cliffs. Learn about the rich maritime history of Adventure Bay, and explore the history of old whaling stations on the way to Grassy Point. Today we also experience a coastal cruise with Pennicott Wilderness Journeys. In their custom built boats we will enter deep sea caves, get up close to the rugged Bruny Island coastline and view seals, dolphins, migrating whales and sea birds.

Day
3
Maria Island

The historic ruins and rugged cliffs of Maria Island National Park are home to diverse wildlife that includes Forester Kangaroos, Bennetts wallabies, and wombats. Walk to historic Darlington Settlement, explore the ancient seabeds of the Fossil Cliffs, and marvel at the sandstone formations of the Painted Cliffs.

Day
4
Freycinet Peninsula and Wineglass Bay

At Freycinet Peninsula, see the pink granite formations of the Hazard Mountains, and the sweeping bays fringed by eucalypts. Join a guided hike to the Wineglass Bay beach – one of the best beaches in the world. If time permits we will also visit Schouten Island.

Day
5
Flinders Island and the Furneaux Group

Visit wild and rugged Flinders Island, and marvel at the pink and gray granite mountain ranges of Strzelecki National Park. Land at beautiful Trousers Point beach, with the possibility of enjoying one of Tasmania’s Great Short Walks at either Trousers Point or Castle Rock. Visit seaside townships, learn about the sad history of Wybalenna
Settlement, and see relics of Flinders maritime past at the Furneaux Museum.

Day
6
Kent Island group

Weather permitting we visit the Kent Group of islands, Tasmania’s northernmost National Park and a marine protected area. These islands are the remains of a land bridge that once connected Tasmania with main land Australia over 10,000 years ago. The waters of Kent Island are crystal clear, with a high diversity of fish species. Enjoy several walk options and swim and kayak off the beach.

Day
7-8
Tamar River and Launceston

Spend two days cruising the scenic Tamar River – which despite its name is actually a tidal estuary over its entire length. Formed by the confluence of the North and South Esk rivers at Launceston, the river’s banks are peppered with scenic reserves, historical properties and notable vineyards. Explore the historic pilot station at Low Head, discover the charming city of Launceston, and enjoy our signature food & wine event at Josef Chromy Vineyard.

Day
9
Stanley Island

On our visit to Stanley, walk to see ‘The Nut’ – an old volcanic plug that measures approximately 4.6km with a steep section that flattens to form the top. You can opt for a chairlift to skip the incline. Either way, be rewarded with coastal views before heading to explore Highfield Historic Site.

Day
10-11
West Coast cruising

Home to striking mountain ranges, ancient pines and untamed rivers, the wild west coast is the heart of Tasmania’s wilderness and a true frontier. Take in the dramatic scenery during a day of cruising.

Day
12-14
Port Davey

A marine reserve and part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, Port Davey is truly spectacular. Enjoy the unforgettable experience of kayaking in Bramble Cove, and explore Melaleuca, along with hiking and birdwatching. We will spend 2-3 days here, and upon departure we will cruise past the remote south coast islands of
Maatsuyker, home to Australia’s most southerly lighthouse.

Day
15
D'Entrecasteaux Channel & Huon River

Cruise the Huon River and visit the township of Franklin and its fascinating Wooden Boat Centre. Cruise down the scenic D’entrecasteaux Channel to Great Taylors Bay, where we have the opportunity to go ashore at the Labillardiere Peninsula for a coastal walk.

Day
16
Tasman Peninsula and Port Arthur

One of Australia’s most significant historic places, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Port Arthur ruins stand sentinel on the Tasman Peninsula south of the narrow isthmus of Eaglehawk Neck. Today, the Historic Site has over 30 buildings, ruins and restored period homes set in 100 acres of landscaped grounds. Weather permitting we will also go ashore at Fortescue Bay, with an option to do a small section of the famous Three Capes Walk, towards Cape Hauy.

We greatly enjoyed the Heritage trip to the Sub-Antarctic Islands and Sounds. Only rain was on the last day just after we completed our zodiac cruise on Dusky Sound.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Intrepid.  There were only eight of us with our Spanish guide. He was amazing, showing us things that weren't on the itinerary.

We had a wonderful time in Niue, and our stay at the Matavai was very comfortable. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and the food was good, We had beautiful warm weather with cloud cover that stopped us burning. The hire car was essential and it allowed us to see the whole island in detail. We had 10 dives with Niue Blue, they were wonderful guides, the water around the island is world class. 10 days was just right for us, we also got to see some whales, dolphins, and flying fish. We explored all of the pools, caves and caverns, and managed the Washaway Cafe twice. It was a totally wonderful holiday,  we all want to return.

We really enjoyed our trip to WA. The tour went well. The sights were great. I love WA. We had booked to swim with the whale sharks on the Ningaloo Reef. That was indeed a highlight. The show was really put on by the Humpbacks who were in large numbers and very active. A Humpback whale and her baby swam through our whale shark  group after we first entered the water to get used to our snorkle and flippers. The whale 'tapped' on the arm with her flipper! And the swimming along the colourful world heritage reef was very special. We loved the reef and the whale sharks and all the other fish swimming amongst the reefs. We especially enjoyed the canyon walks and swimming in deep pools. All in all a great trip that we would recommend to others.
Western Australia, Helen & Kevin
We had a lovely family time. Worked out well overall at Plantation & Musket Cove. Plantation had several great playgrounds suitable for the infant's age (20 months) & more choices for food to purchase which was good. Could have done with a few more loungers around the pool at Musket .. but overall very good. The garden bures at Musket were very well spaced & private & lovely setting
Fiji, Fiona

Tahiti, Jeff & Glen
Just a quick note to say thank you for another seamless trip with my flights to and within Australia last week. Many of the others had luggage tagging issues due to the way their tickets had been set up by their agents while I quietly breezed through with no problems. Thanks again for being so amazing at what you do.
Georgina, Australia
I was on the Marlborough Sounds trip 1 - 7 May, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I appreciated the upgrade to a more comfortable, and quieter cabin. The team is really excellent, they do their best to see that their travellers are being well cared for and get the best possible out of the trip. They also did a brilliant job with the weather! We had a good balance of shore explorations, zodiac cruises, and time to relax. The food was excellent. We were very fortunate in the variety of birds and native bush, as well as fur seals and that marvellous dolphin pod. The interesting talks in the evening were an added bonus

We have returned from our Darwin and Ghan journey - all really fantastic and couldn't fault the organisation.  We were pleasantly surprised to have credits on the JetStar flight for food and drink, and of course the $150 at the Mindil Beach was very useful.  This hotel was truly wonderful.  The flights were well coordinated and all on time.  The temperatures in Darwin were hot but not oppressive, much cooler now.
