Riyadh Buraydah (via Ushaiger)

Riyadh to Ushaiger
Approx Drive Time: 2 hr 30 min (204 km)

Ushaiger Heritage Village
On the way to Buraydah, we’ll stop at Ushaiger—a real hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Najd. This peaceful heritage village has been around for more than 1,500 years, first settled by Bedouins and once an important stop for pilgrims travelling to Makkah, thanks to its natural springs and shady palm groves.

Its name comes from a nearby red mountain—“Ushaiger” translates to “little blonde.” Today, it’s like stepping into a living museum. Wandering through the village, you’ll find narrow laneways, traditional mudbrick houses, and timber walkways that wind through the old town. Many of the buildings have been beautifully restored, with carved wooden doors and triangle-shaped windows that showcase classic Najdi architecture.

It’s a chance to experience a slower pace of life and see a side of Saudi Arabia that many visitors miss.

Ushaiger to Buraydah
Approx Drive Time: 2 hrs (185 km)

Cooking with a Saudi Female Chef
Once we arrive in Buraydah, it’s aprons on for a hands-on cooking session led by a local Saudi chef. You’ll be guided through the steps of preparing traditional Najdi dishes—think rich stews, fragrant rice, and comforting wheat-based recipes, all rooted in the hearty flavours of central Arabia.

While we won’t be whipping up dessert, you’ll get to try Kleija—a spiced, date-filled biscuit that’s a local favourite in the Qassim region. Paired with a cup of Saudi coffee, it’s the perfect sweet finish.

This relaxed 3-hour class is a fun, flavourful way to dive into Saudi cuisine—and connect with the culture behind the food.

Buraydah Hail (via Unaizah)

Buraydah to Hail: Markets Camels & Ancient Art
Approx Drive Time 2 hr 40 min (280 km)

Camel Market Visit, Buraydah
We’re up early today for a visit to the world’s largest camel market. The Buraydah Camel Market is a whirlwind of activity. Camels parade through the dusty main arena while local traders call out bids and haggle with flair. From prized racing breeds to sturdy desert travellers, each camel has a story—and a price tag to match. It’s loud, it’s lively, and it’s a fascinating window into a centuries-old tradition that’s still very much alive today.

Mosawkaf Market, Unaizah
From there, we make our way to Unaizah to explore Mosawkaf Market—one of Najd’s most iconic traditional markets. Set against a backdrop of classic Najdi architecture, the market has a variety of local shops for men and women, and is dotted with cultural exhibits and open squares. You’ll find locally made crafts, textiles, spices, and folk performances that bring the region’s heritage to life.

Jubbah Rock Art, Hail Region
This afternoon we head north to Jubbah, home to Jabal Umm Sinman—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Saudi Arabia’s most significant archaeological treasures. Here, guided by a local expert, we’ll explore ancient rock carvings etched into the sandstone cliffs, dating back up to 9,000 years. These petroglyphs offer a glimpse into early human life—think animals, tools, rituals, and the daily rhythm of desert living. It’s a powerful moment of connection with the distant past, set in a dramatic desert landscape.

Upon arriving in AlUla, we’ll end the day with a visit to Elephant Rock (Jabal AlFil), one of the region’s most iconic natural landmarks. Shaped by wind and water over millions of years, this towering sandstone formation resembles an elephant with a distinct trunk and body—completely carved by nature.

AlUla Tour

Hegra (Madain Saleh) Tour
Today, we’ll visit Hegra (Madain Saleh), Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site and the second-largest city of the ancient Nabataean Kingdom after Petra. This awe-inspiring archaeological site features 111 monumental tombs, 94 of which have beautifully carved facades etched into sandstone cliffs, especially in the Jibal Ithlib area. The smallest tomb is just 2.7 meters tall, while the grandest towers over 21 meters high.

But Hegra is more than tombs—it’s a place where human history stretches back millennia, sustained by underground water sources that made settlement possible in the harsh desert.

This 2–3 hour guided bus tour is operated by the AlUla Tourism Board, and tour timing is subject to a time slot allocated by the authorities, so while we’ll aim for a morning visit, the timing and tour content may change. We will keep you updated locally.

Lunch at a Local Farm with the Al Joud Family (Females Only)
After the ancient wonders, we switch pace with a warm and personal experience—a traditional home-cooked lunch with the Al Joud family. This is Saudi hospitality at its finest: generous, welcoming, and delicious. You’ll get a taste of local dishes made with love, all while supporting local women and sustainable tourism.

After lunch, we’ll take a short stroll through the family’s farm to learn about the region’s agricultural traditions and local produce.

AlUla Old Town Walk
Wrap up the day with a stroll through Old Market Street in AlUla’s Old Town. This lively area is home to artisan shops, cafes, and cultural exhibits. Browse handmade crafts, sample local delicacies, and experience the warm spirit of the community in this charming, historically rich setting.

AlUla Madinah

Today we continue exploring the incredible layers of history in AlUla with a visit to two of its most important heritage sites.

First, we’ll journey to the ancient city of Dedan—once the thriving capital of the Dadanite and Lihyanite Kingdoms. This area, rich in history and archaeological significance, was one of the most important oases of the 1st millennium BCE. Excavations have uncovered fortified cities, complex urban layouts, and traces of a unique culture that blended Arabian traditions with Mesopotamian and other regional influences.

Just a short distance from the main excavation site lie the famous Lion Tombs—two tombs carved into sandstone cliffs, marked with majestic lion sculptures. These tombs likely belonged to high-ranking leaders and remain among Dedan’s most iconic features.

Next, we visit nearby Jabal Ikmah, often called AlUla’s open-air library. This striking cliffside is etched with hundreds of inscriptions and petroglyphs that tell stories of ancient beliefs, trade, rituals, and early written language. It’s the highest concentration of early Arabic script in the region—perfect for anyone fascinated by ancient cultures and storytelling through stone.

This visit is a journey back through time, revealing the deep roots of AlUla’s civilization and the legacy left behind by the kingdoms that once flourished here.

Transfer: AlUla to Madinah (331km)
After soaking in the stories of Dedan and Jabal Ikmah, we’ll begin our scenic drive to Madinah—a journey of just over 3.5 hours, with time to reflect on the ancient legacies we’ve uncovered.

Madinah City tour & Sunset Picnic

Madinah City Tour
Our time in Madinah begins with a visit to the Prophet’s Mosque—one of the holiest and most significant places in Islam, and the burial site of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It’s a powerful place of peace, reverence, and reflection.

We’ll stop next at the Hijaz Railway for a photo opportunity. This historic railway once linked the holy cities of the Ottoman Empire and remains a reminder of the region’s modern history.

Then it’s on to the Quba Mosque—the very first mosque in Islam. Its simplicity, history and spiritual importance make it a meaningful stop on our journey.

For lunch, we’ll explore the Chef’s Market, a vibrant local spot offering a variety of traditional Madinah dishes. Afterward, there will be an optional visit to a dates factory or farm, where you can purchase fresh, locally produced dates.

Before wrapping up the day, we’ll explore the Dar Al Madinah Museum. With exhibits on everything from Islamic history to the city’s urban development, it’s the perfect place to round out our understanding of Madinah. Then, we’ll head to the hotel for some well-deserved rest.

Evening Sunset Picnic with Female Guide
We’ll end the day with an authentic Saudi-style picnic, led by a female guide. Enjoy traditional Saudi bread and dukkah (a local spice mix), accompanied by tea and peppermint—the signature flavor of Madinah and the Hejaz region. It’s a charming and relaxing way to experience local hospitality with stunning views over the city.

Tayebat Museum
Then it’s on to the Tayebat Museum, tucked away in the Al Faisaliyah district. Housed in a stunning replica of traditional Hijazi architecture—think intricate wooden latticework, ornate coral masonry, and classic bay windows—the museum walks us through 2,500 years of Jeddah’s history, from the city’s foundation and its cosmopolitan past, to its rich Islamic heritage.

Floating Mosque (Al Rahmah Mosque)
Next, we’ll visit the Floating Mosque, one of Jeddah’s most recognisable landmarks. Built right on the sea, it appears to float at high tide. Its pristine white walls and turquoise dome shine brilliantly under the sun, blending Islamic architecture with traditional design. Equipped with modern sound and lighting systems, the mosque offers a serene and stunning spiritual experience.

Al Balad – Jeddah’s Historic District
As the sun sets, we explore Al Balad, Jeddah’s old town and historic heart, founded in the 7th century. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is famous for its preserved coral stone buildings, unique window designs, and traditional wooden doors. We’ll tour inside one of these historic houses to admire authentic interiors and furniture.

Walking through the narrow streets, you’ll hear stories of ancient merchants, pilgrims preparing for the Hajj, and the vibrant market life that once thrived here. Key sites include centuries-old mosques, some still active for worship today, and the historic Makkah Gate, through which pilgrims passed on their journey to the holy city.

We absolutely loved our time away and boy did we cover some mileage!! Our journey to the Kakadu with Outback Spirit was great. We had a fantastic guide with huge knowledge and he really contributed to the trip. We couldn't fault The Ghan, everything beautifully done, stunning food, plenty of champagne, great company and excellent staff. The off-train experiences were well organised which amazed me considering how many people were on the train!  A highlight was the champagne in the middle of the desert after a day at Coober Pedy with nothing else except train and desert in sight. Our 8 day outback experience was everything and more than expected. So well run, great guides with enormous knowledge of the area. Nothing was a problem, everything ran smoothly. Accommodation was great and all the excursions well worthwhile. Was fun and the 2 guides really contributed to that.
The Ghan, August 2025, Carolyn & Philip
Thanks for organising so much of our recent June/July trip to Canada, Sweden and Norway. It all went really well and the self-drive itinerary through Canada by Design was awesome...very busy but we saw and did so much!
Canada, June 2025 Wendy & Paul
We loved our R&R in Ischia - hosts were fantastic as were the breakfasts and dinners we had there! Our favourite place on Ischia island was the very quaint village of Saint Angelo, another absolute must is dinner at Trattoria Il Focolare - amazing dining experience. We also absolutely loved our stay at Palazzo Del Duca in Matera so beautiful and OMG the breakfast!! Outstanding. So thank you Juliet all was fabulous, travel seamless as well - next adventure I will definitely be in touch.
Italy June 2025, Jane & Stephen
We want to thank you most sincerely for organizing our epic trip to Europe, it went off without the slightest hassle or hitch. Your pick of hotel in the cities were spot on, nice and central, close to the metro. Many thanks for this trip of a lifetime.
Europe, May & June 2025, John & Mary
What a trip! The whole trip was amazing and I have come away with my preconceived ideas about the region changed in a positive way. Most young people have some English. Many young ones wanted to engage in conversation to practice their English. They seemed genuinely interested in us. It was very surprising to see NZ wines on the list of many books the hotels we stayed in and also in a remote very small dairy type store. Many of our hotels were outstanding. The odd accommodation we had in more remote areas were not so salubrious but considering where we were I was very happy. They were all clean and tidy. Lyndon was a great tour leader. Both Kylie and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and feel privileged to be able to visit these countries at an early stage in their tourism journey.
Silk Road Odyssey, May2025, Karen & Kylie
We had an awesome trip, the Alaska trip was certainly a highlight and the Uncruise company was amazing. We loved Banff, the trip through the Ice Road Parkway was fantastic,we really loved it. Victoria was well worth the visit and the gardens were outstanding- loved every minute. All the accommodation you booked was great- thank you.We really had an awesome time away, thank you for all the planning and the Alaskan cruise was certainly a bucket list thing to do, so very pleased we decided to do it.
Canada & Alaska, Gerard & Jo
We would like to thank you for organising our Japan trip, everything about it was perfect. Our guided activities struck a good balance between history, both ancient and more recent, as well as just the right amount of opportunity to experience daily Japan life. Our accommodations struck the right balance and the private vehicles with drivers were super prompt and most comfortable. The Toyota Alphard limousines with Lazy Boy style seats were quite something! All our guides were excellent.
Japan, Tim & Malin
We have had an amazing time in China and our guide was superb. There was just so much to see and do as the country is huge. A very relaxing Yangtze River Cruise and then jam-packed days exploring many highlights of China. So, thanks for your help and support.
China, Elizabeth & Keith
Had an amazing time thanks! Everything was perfect and hotels and transfers etc all worked great! Thanks for all your help! Will definitely recommend you to anyone who asks and any more trips we plan will come to you.

We greatly enjoyed the Heritage trip to the Sub-Antarctic Islands and Sounds. Only rain was on the last day just after we completed our zodiac cruise on Dusky Sound.
Sub Antarctic Islands & Fiordland, Paul and Ann
We had an amazing time in India, loved it. Thank you for your recommendation and for making all the arrangements for us. Our Intrepid guide was fantastic - I think he won best Intrepid guide for India in 2023.
India, Paul & Sheila
We had the most fantastic time. We were totally looked after and have absolutely no complaints from both of the lodges. Lovely accomodation and food and great swimming pools, which seemed to be used exclusively by us, particularly in Phinda. Great down time for the children. They also participated in the wild child side of things and all came home with a ranger certificate! If anyone wants to do Africa with children I would highly recommend both of these game reserves. Thanks for all the work you did to organise this for us and there will be enduring memories for us all and hopefully sparked the travel bug in the children
South Africa family holiday, Justin & Nicola
We had a fabulous trip away. Insight and Avalon were just wonderful, couldn’t fault them at all. Thank you so much for all your input and help.
Europe in Winter, Nikki & Steve
Everything you organised worked really well. The timings and explanations on arrival at places was brilliant. The hotels were all handily located to centre of old towns. The 2 Intrepid Trips provided extra understanding of the areas as did the 3 day Hurtigruten cruise.
Scandinavia, Bronwyn & Gordon
We are home from “the most extraordinary place on Earth“. You are so right it is just overwhelmingly wonderful. The ship the scenery the seas, the wildlife and fellow passengers just amazing. We were lucky enough to have Greg Mortimer himself lead the expedition. He’s 72 and so leads just one expedition a year. He was just the most fabulous man in every way. Always there in every situation, always talking to everyone, always challenging us without too much of the "safety safety’. And so humble. He should be cloned (even if he is Australian.)
Antarctica, Falklands & South Georgia, Richard & Annie
My holiday was amazing, absolutely fantastic. Africa was definitely the highlight and G Adventures were amazing. I met some lovely people and had a wonderful time and I'm so pleased I went. All of your arrangements worked out perfectly. Everything just went like a dream. So I just wanted to say thank you.
Portugal & Kenya, Sandra
We have thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Intrepid.  There were only eight of us with our Spanish guide. He was amazing, showing us things that weren't on the itinerary.
Red Centre NT, Harm & Glenis
The "Sea Cloud" experience was above expectation and more! All your plans worked perfectly and we enjoyed the Somewhere Boutique Hotel at Voulagemeni. Absolutely no problem with the flights. Our accommodation was more than adequate, food excellent and the service 5+ star. We would strongly recommend this 'once in a lifetime' experience.
Adriatic, Paul & Ann
We had a wonderful time in Niue, and our stay at the Matavai was very comfortable. The staff were all very helpful and friendly and the food was good, We had beautiful warm weather with cloud cover that stopped us burning. The hire car was essential and it allowed us to see the whole island in detail. We had 10 dives with Niue Blue, they were wonderful guides, the water around the island is world class. 10 days was just right for us, we also got to see some whales, dolphins, and flying fish. We explored all of the pools, caves and caverns, and managed the Washaway Cafe twice. It was a totally wonderful holiday,  we all want to return.
Niue, David & Yan
Overall its was an absolutely amazing experience, thank you for all clear information you had given us, really helpful to figure out where is our hotel and how to move from one place to another. Thank you so much for organizing this trip and doing such a good job.
Europe, Ai Ngo and Adrian
Our trip was fabulous!! Every aspect was extremely well organised and so easy. GAdventures and our tour guide, Tam, had a well planned and great itinerary so while we got to see some amazing sights, it was still really well paced and relaxing. The timing for everything that you and the GAdventures tour organised for us was perfect. We had no glitches at all and would highly recommend all of the options to others. Thanks so much for all of your efforts for us; they were much appreciated. Hopefully we can arrange another wonderful trip with you again in the not too distant future.
Vietnam & Cambodia, Chris & Robyn
Just a quick note to thank you very much for your assistance with our recent trip to New York.  We had a great time and everything went extremely well.
USA, Michael & Tonia
We really enjoyed the cruise and this was certainly one of the highlights of the trip. The Azamara cruise was ideal being a smaller boat (and numbers of people) but still provided great service and entertainment. The cruise we did from Athens to Venice was perfect with a destination each day to visit and a great variety of places. I would certainly recommend this cruise company and this particular voyage option.
Europe, Rob & Nikki
We’ve had a fabulous time in Portugal, outstanding guide, great food and wine and the National Geographic tour was superb. What a wonderful country, lovely people and great sights.
Portugal, David & Jill
We really enjoyed our trip to WA. The tour went well. The sights were great. I love WA. We had booked to swim with the whale sharks on the Ningaloo Reef. That was indeed a highlight. The show was really put on by the Humpbacks who were in large numbers and very active. A Humpback whale and her baby swam through our whale shark  group after we first entered the water to get used to our snorkle and flippers. The whale 'tapped' on the arm with her flipper! And the swimming along the colourful world heritage reef was very special. We loved the reef and the whale sharks and all the other fish swimming amongst the reefs. We especially enjoyed the canyon walks and swimming in deep pools. All in all a great trip that we would recommend to others.
Western Australia, Helen & Kevin
We arrived back this morning from a fantastic time away, there were so many pinch yourself moments that we need to rely on our photographs to remember them all. Thank you for your input, everything went smoothly, as usual your itinerary, flights and accommodation was great. Everything you had arranged for us was great.  The Dylan at SFO worked out really well as was very close the BART rail. That was a great recommendation.
USA & Canada, John & Pam
Thank you for organising our USA holiday, it was fantastic. The holiday has been even better than we all imagined.  Thank you for all your help.
USA, Nicki
We have had an excellent holiday and a much-needed break. Thank you for your part in making our holiday a success.
Indonesia, Jane & Richard
We had a fantastic day at Plitvice today - very wet and overcast but absolutely stunning and loved every minute of our 12kms walking and photographing!! Loving our hotel here too ... another perfect one thank you!
Croatia, David & Joss
We had a lovely time on both the cruise and the bus tour but the Bears of course were the highlight. The cruise was great and thankfully we had beautiful sunny weather when we needed it most in Glacier Bay and College Fjord. They were absolutely spectacular. Everything on the cruise was good and we really enjoyed the talks from the Naturalist on board. The Bus Tour was also good and I think they did a good job in changing the itinerary at short notice with the Jasper Fires. The driver and Tour Director were both great.
Alaska & Rockies, Imelda
We had a fab holiday thanks, all the logistics went without a hitch and all the activities were brilliant.
Peru & Chile, Marie
We got back from hol on Saturday and just want to say a massive thank you for all your correspondence with us and bookings that you did. We had an absolute ball and it was an adventure of a lifetime for us. A real dream come true! Loved the US and we are already planning of going back! The RHCP concert was out of this world! Here we are back in cold rainy Chch and it's not really where I want to be right now. Haha. The Beresfords Arms was perfect for our fam and the bonus of breakfast and wine and cheese in the arvo, was amazing! Car hire ran smoothly and the pickup location to hotel was fantastic! The drop off was also awesome! Hope to email you again soon with another dream!
USA, Bree
The Intrepid tour was fantastic too. Visited many interesting places. The old colonial towns and Aztec and Maya sites are my favourites. Caye Caulker was nice. And all of Guatemala.
Central America, Arthur
We had a lovely family time. Worked out well overall at Plantation & Musket Cove. Plantation had several great playgrounds suitable for the infant's age (20 months) & more choices for food to purchase which was good. Could have done with a few more loungers around the pool at Musket .. but overall very good. The garden bures at Musket were very well spaced & private & lovely setting
Fiji, Fiona
Sandra and I are back at home now after a couple of great months away.  The whole trip was great, so thanks for your help with the bookings etc. No issues at all. We very much enjoyed the Rhine cruise with Viking. We couldn’t fault their service and effort, and are happy to recommend them to others.
Europe, Murray & Sandra

Tahiti, Jeff & Glen
The trip was fantastic thanks very much for all your input.  Everything worked seamlessly with the flights, accommodation, and car rentals that you booked for us.  The places you booked for us were all in a good location.   The cycle trip through Burgundy was also definitely a highlight. It was truly a trip of a lifetime with everything that we managed to squeeze in, and having a lot of it organised for us was a real treat.
Europe, Mike & Nicky
Our trip was outstanding, our guide was great and we had a whole lot of optional extras that we took the opportunity to enjoy. Everything was seamless and well organised, we had a fantastic group that was just 11 people through Vietnam and 1 extra joined us through Cambodia. I couldn't speak highly enough of G Adventures and their staff. It was a truly memorable experience and I would certainly recommend. Many thanks for all your help and yes we are slowly readjusting to the freezing weather here!
Vietnam & Cambodia, Robyn
Our trip went very well. We loved Ireland with Back Roads, excellent guide and good group. We think of three things, its green, narrow roads and old stone fences! Very interesting history. Hurtigruten had ungraded us to Cabin 601, right at the front with three windows, nice and spacious so very enjoyable. We had rougher seas around the Hebredies and Orkneys but all good.

Just a quick note to say thank you for another seamless trip with my flights to and within Australia last week. Many of the others had luggage tagging issues due to the way their tickets had been set up by their agents while I quietly breezed through with no problems. Thanks again for being so amazing at what you do.

The Amazon trip was way beyond my expectations and everything else just perfect.

I was on the Marlborough Sounds trip 1 - 7 May, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I appreciated the upgrade to a more comfortable, and quieter cabin. The team is really excellent, they do their best to see that their travellers are being well cared for and get the best possible out of the trip. They also did a brilliant job with the weather! We had a good balance of shore explorations, zodiac cruises, and time to relax. The food was excellent. We were very fortunate in the variety of birds and native bush, as well as fur seals and that marvellous dolphin pod. The interesting talks in the evening were an added bonus

We have returned from our Darwin and Ghan journey - all really fantastic and couldn't fault the organisation.  We were pleasantly surprised to have credits on the JetStar flight for food and drink, and of course the $150 at the Mindil Beach was very useful.  This hotel was truly wonderful.  The flights were well coordinated and all on time.  The temperatures in Darwin were hot but not oppressive, much cooler now.

We arrived back safely on the “Wings Of The Nation” yesterday morning. Your invaluable advice and meticulously planned  itinerary, worked flawlessly!  Unbelievably, we did not have a late flight, a missed connection, or lost bag the whole time away! The cruise itself was everything we had hoped for, and more, a trip of a life time! Thank you for putting together this option. One of the things that made all the difference on the cruise, was that the weather was brilliant, the whole time! The crew couldn’t believe our luck, mind you, and neither could we! Overall the whole trip was a wonderful experience. Thank you again for putting together a very successful itinerary.

Back safe and sound after a wonderful cruise and Greek Island stay. Barcelona amazing and our little hotel was perfect. So handy to everything. The Viking cruise was pure luxury . Food, cabin décor entertainment , just perfect. My favourite places visited were Sicily, all the Croatian coast, towns and villages. Our Greek island stay very good with nice family hotel. Not so keen on the ferry. Like being in a plane. Very quick! Business was great and it would be hard to fly any other way now. Anyway Ian thank you so much for organising a great holiday for us. Very much appreciated. I haven’t completely ruled out travelling again!!

Thank you Peter for once again, your meticulous planning for us. The trains worked admirably and we had plenty of time for connections. It is sometime since we have travelled in Europe but we have had a fabulous time despite only three sunny days in UK and Europe. Free use of public transport in Basel and Geneva great. Oyster card worked well in London. Lauterbrunnen was Swiss fairytale. A three day pass meant we did heaps and the weather cleared on our last day so we enjoyed Jungfrau plus views of The Eiger. Lots of Indian tourists/ has featured in a Bollywood movie. Weather didn’t clear in Zermatt/ so didn’t see Matterhorn. Left 42 degrees in Dubai. Sunday breakfast up the Burj. Thanks Peter you are an excellent travel agent.

A big thank you for organising bookings for us. Everything went according to plan. Managed to catch everything, nothing delayed , except Easyjet which you kind of expect.

We had an absolutely fabulous holiday.  I adored Switzerland, the people, the scenery, just everything.  Every day was better than the day before, couldn't fault anything. The hotels and transport were spot on.  Simon skied 5 days and I found plenty to do.  It was easy meeting people and exploring by myself. Thank you so much for all your organising.  This trip has given me so much confidence to explore other European countries and winter climates.
