Brazilian Beaches - Ilha Grande & Paraty

A fantastic 5 day tropical getaway!

Soak up the sun and enjoy incredible beaches and coastal vibes, exploring the pretty colonial port of Paraty, and the lush “big island”of Ilha Grande

Travel south from Rio by road, then take a boat over to the lush island of Ilha Grande lying just off the coast of Brazil, covered in pristine remnants of Brazil’s Atlantic rainforest, and hundreds of beaches.  With just one small settlement of lodgings, cafes and shops, there are no cars, so enjoy swimming, walking the jungle trails, or taking a boat around the island to explore at your leisure. Head to Lopes Mendes Beach, crystal clear water, white sand and an ocean of emerald shade, one of the best beaches in Brazil!

The head back to the mainland, and further down the coast where you will find the charming colonial town of Paraty. Once a thriving port, it is now a popular weekend getaway, with its delightful Portuguese colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and surrounding areas of tropical forest, waterfalls and beaches. Explore the town on foot, photograph the brightly colored door and window frames, take a jeep trip into the jungle to explore waterfalls and visit the local distilleries to sample some high-quality cachaça, the local drink and learn about local life.

Tour itinerary

Day
1
Rio to Ilha Grande

At the appropriate time, you will be transferred from your Rio hotel to the port to connect with the ferry to Ilha Grande. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your Pousada.

The island retreat of Ilha Grande, off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, is covered with tropical beaches and virgin rainforest and only a few small settlements. It has a rich history, having housed a leper colony and then a high-security penitentiary for some of Brazil’s most dangerous political prisoners, until its closure in 1994. The island is noted for its unspoilt beaches, rugged landscape, rich vegetation and scenic beauty. The largest settlement on the island is the picturesque, palm-fringed beachfront town of Vila do Abraão.
